The Not-Quite-Circle Skirt

Sometime in 2020 I began making pillows from nerd tshirts I wasn't wearing anymore but had designs I still liked, and from there my love of sewing (which had been dormant for a while) began to wake up and take hold. I had a general understanding of how circle skirts worked, and wanted to try my hand at making one. I found a blue sheet that didn't fit any of the mattresses we had, and got to work.
Confident in my math and measurements, I cut out the skirt, figured out a waistband, cut a slit for a zipper, managed to get a zipper in (I truly do not remember how I managed to make the zipper work for this skirt--the fact that it's still attached is a miracle), wonkily added a button and a couple hook and eye closures to fit my waist how I wanted.
The thing is, the initial math I did was not at all the correct way to figure out how/where to cut the waist out of a circle skirt, so it ended up being far too big, leading to an...interesting example of gathering.
For it being the first garment I ever made on my own I'm still pretty happy with it, no matter how much of a hodgepodge of wild techniques and weird seams it is. It showed me I *could* make things and that even if it was frustrating, it was still worth it for the feeling of satisfaction that came at the end of the project.
